Shannon and Jason grew up in the same community in Calgary, Alberta, though they never crossed paths. Separately, they both moved to Edmonton for school, after a few chance encounters and a few mutual friends, Jason asked Shannon on their first date. Five years later they find themselves on one of the most beautiful islands in the world promising forever in front of over 80 family and friends. With such a large guest count, the location for their celebration was a huge part of their planning process. They ultimately decided on Gannon’s Wailea which offered a private wedding knoll for their ceremony and an affordable restaurant buy out option for their reception.

On how the couple decided on Maui for their destination wedding, the bride shares:

We have both been to Hawaii a few times, and have always loved Maui in particular due to its beauty and versatility of activities. We both knew we wanted a destination wedding, and Hawaii seemed to be the natural choice, especially since November in Canada is cold pretty much anywhere you go!

The couple envisioned a late afternoon ceremony followed by a lively yet classy celebration. Food was a huge priority for the couple as they wanted their guests to be wowed by the food and have a great time dancing the night away. They were not disappointed in their choice of the fabulous Gannon’s Wailea providing their amazing reception catering!

Their entire day was full of so much love and we could not have been happier to be chosen as their Maui Wedding Planner! Congratulations to the newlyweds, we wish you as much love and happiness as this night provided for the rest of your lives together! Mahalo from all of us at Makena Weddings.
